- SherylYoga TeacherSherylYoga Teacher
Sheryl is a qualified Mental Health Nurse with 35+ years of experience. Sheryl qualified as a BWY Teacher in 2010 and has since combined the two disciplines to teach Yoga to clients experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties.
Prior to Lockdown, Sheryl has taught at her home studio, a community studio and in a hospital.
Along with an NHS Traumatic Stress Clinic, Sheryl piloted the trauma-informed yoga classes with female victims of sexual trauma. The women in the pilot group reported that the classes had been ‘transformational’ in beginning to repair the relationship with their own bodies and being 'able to breathe again'. After this successful pilot, classes extended to all the clients, who include victims of childhood sexual abuse, torture, domestic violence, FGM, human trafficking, forced prostitution and assault. Results from the evaluations included improved physical and mental health; improved posture, flexibility, concentration, and sleep; and increased feelings of confidence, self-esteem and self-compassion.
Sheryl has also taught people recovering from a stroke, working with the student to gain confidence, increased strength, movement, balance and coordination, resulting in enhanced neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form new connections).
Areas of expertise: General classes for clients with physical and mental health difficulties, Trauma-informed Yoga, Chair Yoga.
Sheryl teaches bespoke online classes and one-to-one, face-to-face classes in her home studio in North London.
